Biography
ASOMOBI was born in 1993 when a group of women from the Biolley community came together for training sessions. In 1997, they formally organized as a group to launch a coffee roasting project. Later, in 1999, they decided to legalize their organization as an official association. ASOMOBI was founded with 15 members, and today it has grown to 37 members. This achievement is remarkable, as it has provided an opportunity for personal growth and support for the families in the community.
Since its establishment, ASOMOBI has been actively involved in project management. Its first initiative, the coffee roasting project, began in 1997 with the purchase of machinery, including a coffee huller, peeler, and roaster.
Alongside this project, ASOMOBI has carried out other initiatives, such as the construction of a small café and bakery in 2002 and the establishment of Posada Rural Cerro Biolley. Additionally, since 2005, the association has collaborated with the Red Quercus Conservationist Association on an Environmental Education and Natural Resource Protection project in the buffer zone of PILA (La Amistad International Park).
IWCA Costa Rica has played a crucial role in broadening ASOMOBI’s global perspective by producing short films and videos that highlight its work on an international stage.
