Biography
My name is Johana, known as Joy. I was born in San Carlos, where I spent my entire childhood surrounded by rivers and dirt roads. After finishing school, my family and I moved to San José to complete high school.
I pursued my university studies at the University of Costa Rica, where I graduated with a degree in Ecotourism and later obtained a teaching license. In 2014, I began working at the Ministry of Public Education, teaching in the technical specialty of Rural Tourism and Food and Beverage Tourism.
This is where my love for coffee began because several units in the program cover coffee studies. Gradually, I started training and became more passionate about it, to the point where my family and I started a small business called EnJoy Coffee. It is a specialty coffee bar where we take specialty coffee to different events.
My husband is also a coffee lover, and he has also received training, and together we are the heads of this project. This year (2025), I decided to participate in the National Women's Cupping Championship, motivated mainly by three things: to experience it, to challenge myself since cupping has always been quite complex for me, and to meet women with extensive experience in the coffee world. Carefully, I overcame each stage of the competition, and today I am proud to say that I am the 2025 National Champion.
The greatest enjoyment of this experience was sharing and learning alongside amazing women whom I admire deeply.
