Biography
The Association (SCACR) was founded on June 30, 1993 by a group of local coffee producers, processing plants, roasters and exporters, with the objective of promoting the country's coffees that have special characteristics, as well as to identify market niches interested in the purchase and consumption of what is known worldwide as "fine coffees" or "specialty coffees."
SCACR participates in national and international forums with the purpose of promoting the projects that are carried out to highlight the benefits of our golden bean.
Among the projects developed by the Association are the Cup of Excellence, the National Barista Championship, the National Tasters Championship and the VIVA EL CAFÉ FESTIVAL, among others.
The Association develops educational programs open to the public to encourage the importance of caring for the bean from cultivation to the cup through barista, cupping, roasting and processing courses.
In recognition of the common purpose of promoting the production and consumption of specialty coffees worldwide, the Specialty Coffee Association of Costa Rica - SCACR - signed an agreement with the SCAA "Specialty Coffee Association of America" on September 13, 1996.
Noelia Villalobos, Executive Director of SCACR, is a major contributor to coffee sector projects that support women to strengthen their participation.
